Dr Michael H. Morris earned an M.S. in Economics and an MBA and then completed his Ph.D. in Marketing at Virginia Tech in 1983. His dissertation won top honors that year from the Academy of Marketing Science. Dr. Morris has served as Noborikawa Distinguished Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Hawaii, the Hilton Visiting Chair at Iowa State University, and the Cintas Chair in Entrepreneurship at Miami University and the Chris J. Witting Chair in Entrepreneurship at Syracuse University. At Syracuse he founded the Department of Entrepreneurship & Emerging Enterprises (EEE). EEE is an undergraduate major in entrepreneurship offered at Syracuse University’s Martin J. Whitman School of Management. The program has ranked among the top ten by U.S. News and World Report, Entrepreneur magazine, and Fortune Small Business. Dr. Morris was recently appointed the N. Malone Mitchell Chain in Entrepreneurship at Oklahoma State University. With this position he serves as the head of the OSU Department of Entrepreneurship. He also holds the Witting Chair in Entrepreneurship at OSU.
Professor Morris has published five books focused on the fields of entrepreneurship and marketing: Entrepreneurial Marketing (Prentice-Hall, 2008), Corporate Entrepreneurship (Harcourt, 2007), Business to Business Marketing (3nd edition, Sage, 2001), Entrepreneurial Intensity (Quorum Books, 1998), and Market-Oriented Pricing (Quorum Books, 1991). In addition, he has authored and co-authored over one hundred research articles found in many prestigious academic journals. From 1998-2004, Dr. Morris served as Editor for the Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship.
Dr. Morris has been recognized for his leadership by a number of organizations. These honors include “21st Century Entrepreneurship Research Fellow,” to which he was inducted by the National Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers and “Entrepreneur of the Year” in the supporter category, by Ernest and Young. He has also received the Edwin M. and Gloria W. Appel Prize for contributions to the field of entrepreneurship.
