Activity Description:
The patient with diabetes visits pharmacies and pharmacists more than any other health care office or
professional. Developing Skills for Diabetes Care has been designed to allow participants the opportunity
to extend their practice by developing a knowledge of the principles and learning theories to manage the
patient with diabetes. This activity will prepare pharmacists for pharmacy credentialing exams, and the
Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) examination. It is expected that upon the completion of this activity
participants will have the knowledge, skills, and behaviors to effectively care for the patient with diabetes.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the activity, the learner will be able to:
1. Comprehend the disease state elements, goals of therapy, appropriate treatment modalities, and potential complications of patients with diabetes.
2. Understand the psychosocial aspects of this disease and how a pharmacist might play a role in the care of these patients.
3. Assess a patient, interpret data, develop a care plan, and document outcomes.
4. Develop a marketing plan for implementation of a diabetes service.
